The Spirit of Prayer and Devotion on the Day of Arafah

As the blessed Day of Arafah arrived, the Islamic Centre of England hosted a deeply spiritual and uplifting recitation of Du’a Arafah on the evening of Tuesday, 26 May 2026. A number of believers living in London gathered in an atmosphere filled with prayer, devotion, and heartfelt remembrance of Allah (swt).

Once again this year, the Day of Arafah drew God-seeking hearts to the Islamic Centre of England, where the words of Imam Hussain (as) echoed through the halls, filling the space with spirituality and reflection.

Participants followed the supplication in different ways. Some read from prayer books, others from their mobile phones, while many recited along with the text displayed on the large screen in the main hall. The sight of tears accompanying the whispered prayers was one of the most moving expressions of sincere servitude and devotion witnessed during the programme.

With hands raised towards the heavens, those present prayed for peace, a blessed end, and the removal of difficulties from Muslims across the world. In the midst of life in the West, the gathering became a moment of comfort, connection, and return to the Divine.

The spiritual programme began at 7:00 pm local time and concluded with Maghrib and Isha prayers, led by Hujjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Sayyid Hashem Moosavi, the Imam of the Islamic Centre of England.

Du’a Arafah is one of the most profound and meaningful supplications in the Islamic tradition. It was recited by Imam Hussain (as) on the ninth day of Dhul Hijjah in the plains of Arafat, a day recognised in Islamic culture as a precious opportunity for prayer, self-purification, repentance, and drawing closer to the Almighty.
