Grand Event Celebrating the Birth of Imam Ali (as)

On January 14, 2025, the Islamic Centre of England hosted a grand celebration marking the birth of the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (as). Hundreds of Shia Muslims from across London gathered for the event, which was held in three languages: Arabic, English, and Persian. The atmosphere was filled with spiritual fervor as recitations of the praises of Imam Ali (as) were presented in Arabic and Persian, leaving attendees immersed in devotion and reverence.

Seyyed Hashem Moosavi, Imam of the Islamic Centre of England, delivered a heartfelt address in both English and Persian, emphasizing the unmatched virtues of Imam Ali (as). He quoted a profound narration from the Prophet Muhammad (saw), stating that if the people of the earth loved Imam Ali (as) as the heavens do, Hell would never have been created. Seyyed Moosavi also referenced a saying from the Prophet, declaring that Allah had endowed Imam Ali (as) with virtues too numerous to count.

Seyyed Moosavi explained the concept of two types of fathers in Islamic tradition: the biological father and the spiritual father. He highlighted that Imam Ali (as) was the spiritual father of the Muslim Ummah, a role appointed by the Prophet Muhammad (saw). As a result, Shia Muslims celebrate the birth of Imam Ali (as) as “Father’s Day,” acknowledging his pivotal role in the spiritual development of the Islamic community.

During the ceremony, Shaykh Ali Karbabadi addressed the audience in Arabic, underscoring the various virtues of Imam Ali (as), including his birth in the Holy Kaaba, his profound knowledge, wisdom, and purity. He also emphasized that both Sunni and Shia scholars agree on Imam Ali’s (as) rightful position as the successor to the Prophet Muhammad (saw).

The celebration concluded with an exciting Kahoot competition, where three lucky participants received prizes. The event also featured lively video presentations in Arabic, English, and Persian, enhancing the joy and enthusiasm of the attendees.

The celebration not only honoured the birth of Imam Ali (as) but also reinforced the unity and devotion of the Shia community, offering a profound reminder of the spiritual legacy left by the Commander of the Faithful.
