a. Shaykh Ali Alami has born in 1950 to a clerical and devout Muslim family.
b. He completed his early education in his hometown of Golpayegan in Isfahan province in central Iran. He then continues his seminary education in Arak. Later he met Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Mohammad Reza Golpayegani in Qom and by accepting him, diligently pursued his further education.
c. He learned the Arabic syntax (naḥw) from Sayyed Javad Taleqani and rhetoric (maʿāni bayān) from Ayatollah Shaykh Hasan Tehrani and logic (manṭiq) from Ayatollah Amini Gilani.
d. During his intermediate level studies, he learned the principles of Islamic jurisprudence (uṣūl) from Ayatollah Haj Shaykh Abolqasem Eshtehardi under whose guidance he studied such classics as Farā’id al-Uṣūl and Rasā’il. He also studied the Makāsib under Ayatollah Shaykh Muhammad Taqi Sutudeh.
e. Finally in his advanced stage in what is known as khārij level, he was under tutelage of Grand Ayatollah Golpayegani who was the leading figure in Qom seminary. He also studied under Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi the subjects of punishments stipulated under Islamic law (ḥudūd) and financial compensations paid to the victims or heirs of victims of a crime (diyāt). Under Grand Ayatollah Haj Shaykh Hashem Amoli, he studied volume one of Kifāyat al-Uṣūl. He studied volume two of the same book under Grand Ayatollah Haj Shaykh Morteza Ha’eri.
f. Shaykh Alami studied logic under Ayatollah Amini Gilani.
g. He studied the third volume of Molla Sadra Shirazi’s Al-Asfār al-Arbaʿah, which is the foundation of transcendental philosophy, under Ayatollah Morteza Mutahhari.
h. Shaykh’ Alami also studied philosophy under Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli. This period lasted for 12 years during which he studied the rest of Al-Asfār al-Arbaʿah, Abu’ Ali Sina’s books such as Al-Shifā’, Al-Ishārāt wa-l-Tanbihāt, Abu Al-Hasan Bahmanyar Ibn Al-Marzuban’s Al-Taḥṣīl and finally Fuṣūṣ al-Ḥikam by Ibn ʿArabi.
i. Shaykh Alami started by teaching the elementary courses and gradually expanded his teaching to intermediate and advance level courses in literature, logic, philosophy and jurisprudence in seminary and universities.
j. in Ramadan of 1985 Grand Ayatollah Golpayegani instructed, and Grand Ayatollah Imam Ruhollah Khomeini approved, that Shaykh Alami would move to London to be at the helm of Islam Universal Association of London (Majmaʿ-e Eslami Jahani).
k. Shaykh Alami has been active in London area for the past three decades in Islamic Universal Association of London.
l. Since Islamic Universal Association of London was the only Shiʿi centre which was established in 1975 under the aegis of His Eminence Ayatollah Golpayegani and enjoyed the support of Sources of Emulation (Marājiʿ-i Taqlīd) and the Qom seminary, the Shiʿi Muslims from various nationalities flocked to this centre and considered it as their spiritual haven in London.
m. The sermons delivered by Shaykh’ Alami have been well researched. Therefore, they have been organised, edited and compiled in the form a number of books such as:
